Mesa to Receive Nearly $10 Million for Neighborhoods

Mesa will be receiving almost $10 million in Neighborhood Stabilization funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.  The money will be used to purchase and rehab abandoned and foreclosed homes, demo blighted structures and provide down-payment assistance and housing counseling.  Areas with the greatest need will be targeted - mostly west of Val Vista Drive.

Altogether, Arizona will be receiving $121 million in funds.  Chandler will be receiving a $2.4 million grant.  Phoenix, Glendale, Avondale and Surprise are also being given grants.  Cities will have to act quickly as funds must be committed within 18 months.
