City of Carefree
Carefree, AZ is located in northern Maricopa County and is a small town in comparison to the neighboring cities of Scottsdale and Phoenix. This is just one of the many reasons why the residents love it here.
Carefree only covers approximately 8.5 square miles in overall size. Don´t let the size or laid back appearance of this town fool you, there is still plenty of "Wild West" atmosphere in addition to cleaner air and less traffic congestion. Residents also enjoy the community environment of a small town with the all the conveniences of two major metropolitan areas within a few minutes drive. Carefree is easily accessibly from the I-17 Highway as well as the Loop 101. There are upscale restaurants and wine bars where you can enjoy spending your time watching a beautiful Arizona sunset or just taking in the serene surroundings. As you travel north out of Phoenix and Scottsdale the elevation increases. Carefree is a few degrees cooler than the larger neighboring metropolitan areas because of the wide open spaces and reduced amount of concrete. It is common for this town to see snow at least a couple of times each winter as a result.
Like the outdoors? You are in luck! Bartlett Lake, Horseshoe Lake and Lake Pleasant are located nearby as well as the Cave Creek Recreation Area, Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area, and the Gateway Desert Awareness Park. Because the area is more rural you will have an excellent chance to view some of the Sonoran Desert wildlife that live in the area. Watch for coyotes, quail, javalina, horny toads, assorted lizards, tarantulas and desert tortoises.
